oil paintings by Susan and Josh Adam

Susan Parish Adam and Joshua Adam met at Colorado College where they found themselves painting in adjoining studios.  After graduating side by side with bachelor degrees in Fine Arts, they began to paint professionally and haven't stopped since.  17 years later, having lived, painted and exhibited their work in many corners of the world, they opened the original Adam Gallery right next to their home. They opened a new gallery location at 7 main street, Castine in 2020

Josh was born and raised in Marin County,California and painted his first plein air painting at nineteen.  For the next twenty years, you could find him (or not) in some remote corner off the beaten path, away from it all at the perfect spot with the perfect light.  Since moving to Maine twenty five years ago, he has transitioned into primarily a studio painter and his work has become generally larger in scale and focused on things marine.

Susan grew up in Connecticut and spent her summers in Castine surrounded by a large family.  She started painting in college as an abstract painter and has since concentrated on developing her own style. Her oil paintings straddle the line between abstraction and realism using bold graphics to create a quiet landscape. She relies on expressive curves to evoke an emotional response.
