oil paintings by Susan and Josh Adam

gallery strip copy.jpg
Susan Parish Adam and Joshua Adam met at Colorado College where they found themselves painting in adjoining studios.  After graduating side by side with bachelor degrees in Fine Arts, they began to paint professionally and haven't stopped since.  17 years later, having lived, painted and exhibited their work in many corners of the world, they opened the original Adam Gallery right next to their home. They opened a new gallery location at 7 main street, Castine in 2020

Josh was born and raised in Marin County,California and painted his first plein air painting at nineteen.  For the next twenty years, you could find him (or not) in some remote corner off the beaten path, away from it all at the perfect spot with the perfect light.  Since moving to Maine twenty five years ago, he has transitioned into primarily a studio painter and his work has become generally larger in scale and focused on things marine.

Susan grew up in Connecticut and spent her summers in Castine surrounded by a large family.  She started painting in college as an abstract painter and has since concentrated on developing her own style. She never knows exactly how a painting is going to turn out. She enjoys taking risks and tries not to control the direction too much.  From commissioned portraits, to crowded scenes and minimalist landscapes, it’s as if she has been developing a language throughout her career and recently, she became fluent.
